Since dA decided to be a piece of Gak (once again) and not let me upload an archive instead of the original file, the download link for the full size pics has been uploaded above, along with the source file.

Pinkie as a Crystal Pony! It took a while getting her to look decent but I like the outcome! Considering this was quite a challenge for me and I experimented a lot, I'd appreciate if you gave me your thoughts on how she looks and whether I should change anything.

Also, in the show, the pony itself has about 80-90% opacity, something to keep in mind if you want to use her for anything. There are also some other fancy filters on the pony and some sparkles.

UPDATE 2 Removed the archive format and fixed a problem with some of her eyelashes being at 90% opacity. Thanks *Mamandil!
UPDATE Made the Cutie Mark less flat, fixed some objects not having 100% opacity, turned this into an archive containing both Crystal Pie and Non-crystal Pie and added the source file.

I really liked the crystal designs for the ponies, the designers did a great job considering the ponies only had them for a very short while.

Well, what I did for the crystal effect was make a whole boatload of grayscale polygons (trying to match the ones I could see on the screenshot and if not just making them where it looked good) which were then constrained with a clipping mask so that they don't go outside the pony's body. Finally I set them to a lower opacity and some blending mode like soft light. It's not difficult at all, it's just a bit tedious.

You can probably also do some equivalent thing with Photoshop or Inkscape.

I'm sure there's some similar way to do it in GIMP as well, I haven't used it in forever though so I forgot what it can and can't do.
